‘20,000 Species of Bees’, ‘Upon Entry’ and ‘Foremost By Night, awarded Basque productions at the Feroz Awards
'20,000 Species of Bees' stood out as one of the main highlights at the Feroz Awards last night, securing a top accolade for Best Dramatic Film. Patricia López de Arnaiz was also recognized as Best Supporting Actress. Directed by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, the film was not the only Basque production to shine in the winners' list; 'Upon Entry' and 'Foremost By Night' also received awards.
'20,000 Species of Bees' stood out as one of the main highlights at the Feroz Awards last night, securing a top accolade for Best Dramatic Film. Directed by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren, the film was not the only Basque production to shine in the winners' list; 'Upon Entry' and 'Foremost By Night' also received awards.
Since its premiere in Berlin in 2023, '20,000 Species of Bees’, produced by Gariza Films, Inicia Films, and Sirimiri Films, has earned over 25 international awards. These accolades include the Silver Bear for Best Leading Actress and the Guild Film Prize at the Berlinale, the Golden Biznaga for Best Spanish Film and the Silver Biznaga for Best Female Supporting Performance at the Malaga Film Festival, along with the Forqué Award for Best Film.
It was also a remarkable night for 'Upon Entry', directed by Alejandro Rojas and Juan Sebastián Vásquez, and featuring Basque Films as the main production company, as it received the award for Best Screenplay. The Basque production has toured prominent festivals and has garnered the FIPRESCI Award in Tallinn (Estonia), the Best Film Award at the Kolkata Film Festival (India), and the Silver Biznaga for Best Male Performance at the Málaga Film Festival, among others.
Adding a touch of surprise to the night, ‘Foremost By Night,' directed by Víctor Iriarte, claimed the Feroz Arrebato de Ficción Award. The feature film, produced by Reescritura, Atekaleun, and CSC FILMS, among others, celebrated its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was acknowledged with the FIPRESCI Award - International Critics' Jury at the 68th Valladolid Film Week - Seminci 2023.
Goya Awards
On the 10th of February, '20,000 Species of Bees' and 'Upon Entry' will meet again at the Goya Awards ceremony. The film by Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren travels to Valladolid with 15 nominations, making it the most nominated debut feature in the history of these awards: Best Film, Best Leading Actress for Patricia López Arnaiz, Best Supporting Actress for Ane Gabarain and Itziar Lazkano, Best Supporting Actor for Martxelo Rubio, Best New Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Editing, Best Special Effects, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.
On the other hand, 'Upon Entry' will compete in the categories of Best Leading Actor, Best New Director and Best Original Screenplay.
