The first edition of the Cimasub International Underwater Film Series in Tenerife began with the film screening on Thursday 27th June, which was exceptionally well received. Since the arrival on the island, with the press conference held in the spectacular Salón Noble of the Cabildo, we already felt that there was great interest and that the expectation for this first edition of Cimasub in Tenerife was very high.

The auditorium of the TEA, the place chosen for the screenings, was completely full, leaving out, with great regret, almost a hundred people due to the limited capacity, promising that in the next edition more sessions will be held in a cinema with a larger capacity. All the films screened received great applause. In addition to the screening of the eight selected works, a round table discussion was held with prominent participants: Natacha Aguilar, expert in cetaceans; Francis Pérez, underwater photographer; Pedro Millán, Island Director of Natural Environment of the Cabildo of Tenerife; and Arianna Gassman, director at Europe Hotels International, moderated by Felipe Ravina, producer of marine documentaries.

During the stay in Tenerife, the Cimasub team was able to explore the wonders of the island, from the depths of the sea to the heights of Mount Teide. The whole team from the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Ravina family and other passionate locals shared their love and knowledge of Tenerife's nature, making this visit an unforgettable experience.

One of the most exciting activities was the observation of pilot whales in their natural habitat, thanks to Atlantic Eco and its founder Higinio Guerra. David Novillo and Mirna Piñero, experts in cetaceans, guided the expedition, sharing their passion and knowledge about these incredible marine mammals.

The visit to Teide was equally impressive. The team was able to contemplate the majesty of the volcano, the third highest in the world, and attend the reopening of the El Portillo Botanical Garden which will be renamed Wolfredo Wildpret, in homage to this eminent 91-year-old botanist and his dedicated team.

The commitment to conservation was also evident in the participation in the Angel Shark project, dedicated to the monitoring and protection of angelsharks. During one night at Las Teresitas beach, we witnessed the project team tagging and analysing numerous Angelsharks.

The experience in Tenerife underlined the work being done to achieve tourism based on knowledge and respect for nature. The Cimasub, in its first edition on the island, highlighted the importance of underwater cinema as a tool to raise awareness and transmit love and knowledge of the sea, helping to preserve our natural environment for future generations.

Subacuáticas Real Sociedad, organisers of the Cimasub, would like to express its deepest gratitude to all the people of the Cabildo of Tenerife and to all the people of Tenerife in general for the close and affectionate treatment they have given us.
